FY2026 HHP I&E Workplan Sharing Workshop
On 26 March 2026, BMSIPO organised the FY26 HHP Innovation and Enterprise (I&E) Workplan Sharing Workshop which successfully served as a cross-institutional and cross-agency platform, bringing together 103 representatives from across the HHP I&E community. With broad representation from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), healthcare clusters, government agencies, and national platforms, the session served as a valuable forum for sharing the RIE 2030 therapeutics and MedTech strategies, providing visibility on institutional priorities and initiatives, and enabling collaboration opportunities to strengthen partnerships across the ecosystem.
The workshop opened with a presentation of the overarching RIE2030 strategic vision for the Human Health and Potential (HHP) domain. Anchored by a significantly increased budget of S$37 billion, the strategy represents a deliberate evolution towards demand-driven, thematically focused research. Key priorities include advancing precision health, cementing Singapore’s position as a global biomedtech and biomanufacturing hub, and optimising human potential across life stages. A landmark feature of RIE2030 is the first-ever RIE HHP Grand Challenge, “Maximising Healthy and Successful Longevity,” which directly addresses Singapore’s rapidly ageing population and targets high-burden conditions such as dementia and musculoskeletal disease.
Sector-specific roadmaps were subsequently presented for both therapeutics and MedTech. The therapeutics strategy outlined a decisive shift from curiosity-driven science towards impact-focused, commercially viable research, with investments prioritised in high-potential modalities including next-generation biologics, multi-specifics, and RNA therapeutics. The MedTech roadmap articulated three key goals for Singapore – fostering globally investible startups, enabling healthcare outcomes by serving as a go-to centre for first-in-human trials for breakthrough MedTech innovations, and growing and anchoring quality partners to drive sustained business expenditure on R&D in Singapore.
Institutional representatives from NHG Health, CRIS, NATi, NUHS, DxD Hub, SIT, EDDC, SingHealth, SUTD, and MedTech Catapult and BMSIPO shared their FY26 workplans, demonstrating how national strategies are being translated into concrete institutional action. Common themes emerged around strengthening translational pipelines, accelerating clinical adoption, and deepening industry engagement to advance Singapore’s healthcare and economic goals.
As Singapore advances into RIE2030, the collective alignment of the public sector ecosystem remains essential to realising the full potential of the HHP I&E strategy. As Pauline Tay of NHIC aptly put it: “We do work together as a Kampung (village). The Kampung does not just bring up a child, but brings an idea all the way from bench to bedside and into the world.”
